Sharon did many massacares against palestinians for so long yet he wasn't trailed or even blamed, Bush is sending his troupes to Iraq for no reason and they're killing (sometimes children)AND getting killed yet he was elected a second time, not to mention others elsewhere.
I never liked Saddam and i'm not defending his actions, but the fact that no one is getting punished else where is why i felt sorry for him. Maybe he deserved death but it's inhuman to tape it on video and distribute it all over the internet. Besides, i don't think his death will change anything in Iraq's current situation.
And if "Anything other than the death sentence for Saddam, after all the crimes he committed against his own people, would have been a joke" then life is really full of bad jokes these days.
Oh and hanging him on the first day of Eid was harsh as well. If they waited up on him with the other two till after Eid it wouldnt have harmed anyone !
@me, i've thought long and hard about what you've said. i partly agree with you on the "inhuman part of him being killed and taping it on video"
the respect you give for a person who is being killed was not given. that was the 'sick'.
I'm no supporter of Bush or his principles.
Infact, if Bush were to be in Saddam's position, he would never go through what saddam went through with even 10% of the courage saddam showed.
Bottomline: the timing, the decision to allow taping and distributing the same, the act of selectively punishing people is all condemnable. it should be. no two ways about it.
But Saddam wasn't the guy i would grant a 'pardon'
Pardon???? A remarkable man, as he was termed by many learned reporters worldwide,I think, would not have thought of sympathies/pardon. Anti-heroes/ heroes should always be viewed as per the prevailing situations. Saddam for Sunnis was a God,whatever may he be for others. If anyone feels that he was a monster who committed atrocities on fellow Iraqis, then I suppose the authority to punish him should be with Iraqis, not the US. In any case, I dont see any difference between Saddam,'the so-called monster' and 'the allies' who deposed him. Killing someone is a sin whether you act a hero or an anti-hero. Judgments are better passed by God,I suppose. Not for a moment can you get back Saddam to ask him WHY....? On the gallows, he(Saddam) stood courageously without a hood looking eye to eye into his executioners with least repentance of his past acts, thus rendering the allied forces' intentions futile. US branded him a monster, defeated him, deposed him, caught him, and hanged him.....but,made him a martyr in the eyes of the muslim world.
I agree. and this is a good topic to debate on. The execution is a well-thought political game of the allies to finaly lay hands on the Oil wells of Iraq. This execution would only lead Iraq closer to civil war, against which the Allies claim to be working. Ah..but do they care..!
