Mismatch

There's a new radio station in town and if you the look-which-says "ivag gothaitha ninge?" ("huh? you got to know now?"), let me answer that, NO! :)

but, that is not what this post is about, the crux of the issue is something entirely different.

All these days the channel beamed at 91MHz (Radiocity, i mean) was the only solace Bangalore had, with brief interventions at 101.3MHz by our very own A.I.R. Radiocity was (is) doing quite a good job at it. the RJs are pleasantly lovable and the lingo is talkable and the ads are followable, overall, enjoyable.

When Radio Mirchi invaded the Bangalore air space, my first reaction was wow! as i tuned in, boy oh boy! i must admit they play some great music! and outside music, the RJ Speak are not lovable, the lingo is nothing new, their ads (currently they're only selling Radio Mirchi 93.3FM and all the mimicry work has been well thought of!) inbetween is good though.

Now, if you will allow yourself to travel your eyeballs to the heading of this topic - as a gentle reminder of why i am writing this (gentle mind you!)- i shall tell you what exactly is the mismatch.

Mismatch exists between the RJ Speak and the music they play. Music is awesome! (I m talking about Radio Mirchi mind you!)

Here's a tip for someone in RadioMirchi who is reading this (I'm a dreamer, ain't I?)

  1. please align yourselves (in terms of RJ Speak) to the Bangalore population, if you want atleast 75% of Bangalore to listen to you.
  2. and atleast 50% here don't follow the local language. It may be true in the other cities that you operate, but here, things are different. you know..

Given a personal choice, I would stream RJ Speak from 91MHz and music from 93.3MHz. Do they have instruments to do this kinda thingy? ;)

I happened to listen to Radio Mirchi, I must say RJ speak is cleary lifted from FM 91. Having said that, I believe tht it is a treat to Kannada speaking crowd considering the local lingo has been taken over by different languages.

@mystique,

I am not denying the fact that its a treat to kannada speaking crowd, but, probably because they are trying to lift from FM91, the mismatch has been exaggerated. the current situation is, illu illa, allu illa (neither here nor there)

"Radio city doing a good job", ahem! excuse me, I prefer 101.3 not because of the RJs not even because FM101.3 plays Kannada songs, for the simple fact that this is only Radio station doesnt censor Hip Hop songs, which the bloody Radio city does.

And about Mirchi the less said the better. I empathise with the ppl of Bangalore who have to bear bollywood songs being played nonstop, what a pity.
