On Our Own In Chennai - Part II

The moment we stepped out of the Juice Shop, Anish found a friend in the Owner. Its something like this. Both (Owner - easily >60years of age - & Anish) are from kerala. Both support Marxists. Both know the secret poem recited by marxists when they meet. (ok, i added this) and Anish's grampa and the shop owner are from the same village in kerala! whoa!!

After an exchange of verbal ding ding sounds (its the malayalam language dear) the options ahead of us weren't plenty. We went back to Rohini International and enjoyed the afternoon siesta. It lasted for about 2 hours.

Anish quickly made some calls and informed the next destination is Beasant Nagar Beach. Both of us turned to our new found friend, confidante, guide, god (in that order) Leo Publishers Map. Both of us closed our eyes and out came the answer. It wasn't exactly diametrically opposite, but it looked quite some distance away. and we were on our own

We had to decide on the mode of transport. trust me, It wasn't difficult. Auto takes about 70 bucks. There's only one bus from the bus stop opposite to Saravana Hotel on South Usman road (Long Live Leo Publishers) and it didn't turn up even after 30 minutes, 1 kurkure and 2 dairy milk bars. So, AutoRickshaw it was!! on our own

The scene inside the auto looked something like this. anish had the map with him. he was telling me which route the auto guy should take. ( i repeat, should take!! - first timers in Chennai!) so we traveled through venkatanarayana road, chamiers road and went straight to adyar bridge, Old Crescent Avenue and finally to the Beach.

The water absorbed whatever negative energy was left in us and we were awe-stuck by the water body.

what followed was a nearly 30 minute grilling session with anish. i belted out a lot of philosophy to him. (Anish, sorry da, it was just one of the moments of high, this time due to water).

We took turns in entering the waters. I was like a kid, collecting shells. The moment I turned around, anish's friends had arrived. and the sales manager we met in the afternoon too turned up. and we spoke a lot about this n that.

It was brought to our notice by THE HINDU newspaper, chennai edition that there was this concert by the band Indian Ocean - lounge music - fusion - sanskrit/hindi lyrics - tabla, guitars, flute, drums. (of the song Kandisa fame) in Wesley High School Grounds, Off Peters Road, Royapettah (Long live Leo Publishers) and Saras dropped us in her car. (thank u so much, saras).

after a mediocre performance by a band called motolov something something, entered Indian Ocean!!! They Rock! I would advice you to stop reading this and quickly buy a CD of theirs. Its that good.

Still reading? ok. but promise yourself you'll buy later. This show experience was once in a lifetime experience and we jumped, sang along, whistled, shouted, clapped, swayed, and lent a roving eye on the cream of chennai damsels present in the crowd. Boy! all that was mind blowing! you can use 'skull shattering' too. this was like a MIRACLE!!

2245hrs in the night.on our own in chennai. ok, with leo publishers map. about 200bucks left.(we had cards mind you!) a passerby said, no buses now. t nagar is atleast 10 km away!!! Stranded in chennai. while on our own.

we decided to just ask the auto guy, and were ready to part with Rs.100. only. and guess what.?? another miracle. auto guy wanted only 50bucks! everything was so damn happening for us that day.

rushed back. the good things didn't stop coming our way. we saw raghuvaran (baasha movie villian, anjali movie hero) signing autographs. we wanted one too. what the heck, we were so relieved that things were falling in place. then, we decided against it.

headed to murugan idly shop (hail murugan shop! murugan thonai!) hogged. went back. slept, promising ourselves we would be checking out at 0700hrs the next day.

end of day 1

end of part 2

Do you happen to remember how Raghuvaran was behaving when the others asked his autograph?

Yes. He showed no arrogance. Was patient & obliging everyone. He was standing by the car & keeping the book / paper offered by his fans on the roof of the car. He didn't seem to be in any hurry. I am not entirely sure if he was smoking - my memory fails here. For the duration I observed, he didn't speak with anyone.
